Group 19 call it quits on season 2020

16th Jun 2020

A massive effort to get the Super Spuds back on the paddock this year was no match for a global pandemic in the end.
Group 19 announced the cancellation of the senior rugby league season on Monday after a majority of clubs voted against participating in 2020.
With uncertainty about allowing crowds into games and subsequent financial pressures, along with concerns for players’ welfare and the difficulties around meeting health regulations, the decision was made not to go ahead.
It is a disappointing situation for the Spuds because this season had promised so much.
The club had an under 18s squad for the first time in many years, women’s leaguetag player numbers were up and the men’s side was starting to see better numbers at training.
It will now have to put all of its energy into 2021 and ensuring the coaches, players, sponsors and supporters who committed to helping out this year will be able to return bigger and better next year.
