2022 Golf Champions
The 2022 club championships concluded at the weekend with Michael Purvis being crowned club champion 13 shots clear of Brock Reeves. B grade champion is Ian Taylor who was two shots clear of Steven Sole, and C grade went to Harry Purvis who had a 20 shot buffer over Pat Grills.
The nett champions are Richard Burey in A grade, Steven Sole in B grade and Pat Grills in C grade.
Saturday’s Guyra Smash
Repairs event was won by Steven Sole with 67 nett, with Bob Constance runner up with 70 nett.
Sunday’s Kirk’s IGA round was won by Michael Jackson with a 68 nett with Steven Sole runner up.
Sunday’s event will be an 18 hole stableford for a club trophy.
Attention all senior soccer players!! Any senior players wishing to play soccer in 2022, we will be holding training and a get together Wednesday, February 16th, 6pm at the Guyra Recreation Grounds (Ted Mulligan Oval).
We are hoping to field three, maybe four senior teams (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th (over 35s)) this year. Please let your friends or anyone interested know.
Also, anyone interested in coaching a senior team is encouraged to attend. We are looking forward to what could be the biggest year of soccer yet!
Guyra Shamrock Hockey Club would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all the committee members for a wonderful 2021 winter competition. The committee recognised the many challenges imposed by the last two Covid affected years and have decided to carry the 2021 Guyra Club membership fees forward to include the 2022 season.
Planning is well underway for the 2022 winter competition, with the first games for the senior comp to be held on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March. Our team nominations need to be submitted to Hockey New England by 21st February 2022. Anyone interested in playing hockey this upcoming season in either the Men’s, Women’s, or Juniors (U11 or U8) please email firstname.lastname@example.org ASAP. Our AGM and general meeting will be held Tuesday 22nd February 2022, 6pm at the Royal Hotel. All welcome and all committee positions will be open.
Last week the ladies played the first round of the Championships. Karen Oehlers had 89 off the stick to be in the lead. Pip White is two shots behind. Julie Walker won the 18 holes net score with 72. Nearest the Pin winners were Shona Mulligan on the 9th hole and Karen Oehlers on the 18th hole.
The second 18 holes of the Championship was played on Saturday morning and the final round is on Wednesday 16th February. Next week is the Guyra Ladies’ 4BBB Open Day. We are expecting many players from the region to visit Guyra and play on our course.
Last week 12 players competed in a 4 ball stableford. The winning team with 39 points was Phil Devlin and Col Walls. Runners up were Pat and Roger Grills who scored 36 points. Nearest the pins went to Steven Sole on the 10th and Len Stanley the 18th.
Last week four ladies represented us at the Glen Innes Vets Open and this Friday a team of four will be playing in the Uralla Open.
Plenty of golf coming up. Next Monday we have a working bee to spruce the course up for the coming tournaments including our Open Days on February 28 and March 1.
Hoping that everyone has good weather and plenty of time to do their midweek this week. Best scores for last two weeks went to Richard Burey with 24, then Darren Lennon with 23 and Peter Mulligan on 22.
Four teams with extra points for having their six players put score cards in. Best team score this week went to Full House with Hillbillies a close second.
Only 40 players out of 60 played. With only a few weeks before we finish you need to get those points in. Good luck golfing.
There were four games of open singles played on Saturday, Dan Kennedy proved too good for Barry Walls taking the game 31 - 11 .
Col Stanley was victorious over Wayne Reeves 31-19, Robert Moore and Mallie Walls did battle with Robert coming out on top 31-15, and in the closely contested match between Roger Cox and Robert Walls, Robert just edged out Roger 31-28 after 36 ends.
Matches set down this Sunday at 12 pm are in open singles with John Jackson to play Anthony Bull and Robert Moore to mark, Michael Shiner will play Andrew Sparke with Steven Sole to mark.
In major/minor pairs David Wilcox and Paul Johnson will take on the formidable Boyd Stanley and Roger Cox, the starter and umpire for the day will be David Wilcox.
