Large fields for golf at Guyra

Last week a large field of 103 enjoyed the great weather and well prepared course to compete in the second round of the New England Pennants. Thanks to the Guyra Bowling and Recreation Club for helping us to handle such a large field within COVID restrictions. Thanks also to the many helpers that were needed to run the day.
The ladies winner was Pip White with a score of 38 points closely followed by Meg Fisher from Armidale with 37. The A Grade men’s was taken out by Craig Hulls from Glen Innes with a good score of 41. Runner up was our own Chris Newberry with 38.
B Grade men’s winner with 38 points was Neil Paine followed by Owen Presnell from Walcha on 36. C Grade winners were all Guyra with Len Stanley on 40 and Wal Chapman 38.
Nearest the Pins went to Cheryl McDonald from Walcha on the 7th, Shirley Bruce from Glen Inness on the 9th, Glen Innes’s Craig Hull the 10th as well as the 18th.
The final Club totals for the day were Guyra 266 points, Armidale 234, Walcha 229, Glen Innes 226, and Walcha 221 points.
That means Guyra are now leading the Competition point score totals on 511 with Walcha not far behind on 494, then Glen Innes 450, followed by Armidale 449 and finally Uralla 409.
Our sponsors Costa’s were very generous with a supply of tomatoes again with most players went home with something.
This week we play our two-day Open competition with players from Goondiwindi, Newcastle, Sydney as well as most clubs in the New England.

Ladies’ Golf
Last week the Guyra Ladies Open saw a field of 70 players. The winners were Pip White and Jenny Tierney.
The runners up for the 4BBB were Pam Youman and Nancy Prisk. The Scratch Winners were Cheryl McDonald and Donna Martin from Walcha.
The Front 9 winners were Liz O’Hara and Lyn Campbell from Armidale. The Back 9 winners were Debbie Heffernan and Wendy Jackson.
