Green wave hits UNE (while men sit it out)

20th May 2025

A strong performance by our 2nd Grade Hockey Women as they came up against PLC. They needed to rely on their years of experience over speed to overcome these girls. Carla Tobin had a cracking game as goal keeper with numerous saves.
Our mid field did not stop working the whole game as the ball went from end to end. Even when they were a player down for five minutes due to an issue with feet and a coloured card they managed to come together and score. 3-1 victory was a great result.
This was always going to be a tough game for 3rd Grade women especially as a few teammates were out with injuries and both Guyra teams played at the same time, hence no subs were available. We welcomed Luisa Gordon to our team and she was an influential addition to our midfield. 3-0 at half time and that is where the score stayed. A massive achievement as these ladies continue to grow, but more importantly are having a lot of fun.

Guyra forced to forfeit clash against TAS
In a disappointing turn, the highly anticipated showdown between Guyra and TAS was called off, with the Guyra Men’s team forced to forfeit this week’s match.
The exact whereabouts of the players remain a mystery—some say they were cut off by the landslide to the east, others claim they’re still recovering from the Big Chill Festival. A few may have ventured west in search of sunshine… or perhaps just hit snooze one too many times.
Whatever the cause, focus now shifts to next weekend. Here’s hoping the full squad can be mustered, and Guyra can get back to doing what they do best—playing hard and playing together.

Junior Hockey
Guyra Under 8 Geckos after only three rounds are showing improvement in their passing and moving into space to receive the ball. These skills create an awesome base to build the season on. Well done team GECKOS!!
Guyra Under 12 Goats played NEGS Under 12 Blue this week and wow did they shine. Working together to move the ball around the field Lachie Rosser and Elsie Post both found the goal. Holding positions in this game was key to our success as they came away with a 3-0 victory.
Guyra Under 12 Galahs had a tougher match as they faced the well formed Harlies Fizzers. Special mention to Laura Jackson who played two consecutive games as our goal keeper and not once did she back down from these older girls. Elka Geree showed great channelling skills whilst playing as a forward. This game was built around defending and the score line definitely didn’t represent the effort from our players.
