Guyra Veterans golfers hosted their two-day open tournament last week, with almost 40 players taking part in Monday’s 4BBB Open, which was combined with the District 4 Ball Championships.
Les Heffernan, partnering with David Brown, took out the event with 46 points. Robert Moore and Wayne Archibald finished runners-up with 43 points.
Nearest the Pin prizes went to Robert Moore on the 7th, Shona Mulligan on the 9th, Dave Brown on the 10th and Terry Mulligan on the 18th.
The tournament was supported by generous sponsorship from Guyra Bowling Club, Elders of Guyra, Jones, Cracknell and Starr, and Costa Tomatoes, whose contributions help make the events possible.
Day two featured the Guyra Open, with wet weather leading to several last-minute withdrawals and a reduced field. Despite the conditions, the competition went ahead with a ladies’ division and two men’s divisions, with most players managing to avoid getting too wet.
Jenny Rogers won the ladies’ division with 31 points, followed by Leonie Taylor on 30 points and Wendy George on 27 points.
In the men’s first division, Neil Paine claimed the Guyra Open title with an impressive 38 points. Greg Constantine finished second with 37 points, while Ian Taylor placed third with 33 points.
Ron Starr won the men’s second division with 36 points, followed by David Elder on 35 points and Phil Devlin on 34 points.
Nearest the Pin winners were Jenny Rogers and Bob Baker on the 7th, Helen Heath on the 9th and Graham Price on the 10th.
Organisers acknowledged the considerable preparation and effort involved in running the tournament, thanking everyone who contributed, as well as the Guyra locals who supported the event.
While visiting players are an important and appreciated part of the tournament, local support remains vital to the continued success of the club’s golfing events.
