Several students from Guyra Central School have made their mark at the PSSA North West Rugby League trials held on Thursday, April 23rd. With a total of 10 zones represented and 140 boys competing, the event proved to be a highly competitive opportunity for young athletes aiming for selection in the Opens Boys and Girls Tackle Rugby League squads.
Guyra Central’s Ashton Hutton impressed selectors during the intense trials, eventually earning a spot in the possible/probable game and being named a shadow reserve for the North West team. Ashton’s dedication and performance were applauded, with the school community hopeful that he will get the chance to participate in the upcoming PSSA State Rugby League Championships later this term.
On the girls’ side, Indigo Atkin, Jaearla Landsborough, and Airlie Vidler showcased their skill and determination throughout the day. Indigo and Airlie advanced to the final selections possible/probable game, with Indigo Atkin named half back for the North West girls team and Airlie Vidler appointed as Reserve. Their achievement is particularly notable as they will now travel to Cronulla to participate in the first ever PSSA Girls Opens Rugby League Carnival.
Guyra Central School congratulate all participants on their outstanding effort and sportsmanship, highlighting their positive representation of the school community.
As the students look ahead to state-level competition, the Guyra Central School community extends its best wishes to Ashton, Indigo, and Airlie for their upcoming sporting challenges.
