Caspers take first step in finals journey

Well Saturday saw the first of the elimination games for Guyra 3rd grade if they want to make it as premiers this season. It was a rematch from the week before where they beat Demon Knights 2 to nil.
On Saturday Guyra was boosted with some returning players and this showed on the score board. It took only two minutes for the team to get on the board with a cross from Tyson Burey out on the right going to Lachlan Bogert for the opener.
The opposition switched on after the early goal and Guyra had to work much harder all over the field to build momentum and stop DK.
It was a penalty on the left side just outside the big box that saw winger Adam Litherland land Guyra’s second goal. Finishing the first half in style was Sujit Sah who broke through the front and ran away with it in the dying minutes.
It was a good half time talk from the coach and Guyra looked good in the opening minutes of the second half. Unfortunately, DK was first on the board scoring from a well-positioned corner kick nine minutes into the second half, this made the score 3 to 1.
Guyra never looked back from this point with Sujit putting the cross in for Tyson to finish only three minutes after the DK goal, then Matt Simpson landed one in the middle of the second half taking the score to 5 to 1.
At this point, with tired bodies on the field, Guyra turned to their ever reliable bench players who made sure the DK side didn’t get back in the game.
This weekend the team plays Inverell who have had the wood over them all season. Finals are a different beast though, let’s get behind the side and see them into the grand final. The game will be played at Inverell starting at 3pm.
