Guyra returned from Tingha with two of the best wins of the season last Saturday and is looking forward to this Saturday’s clash with Barraba at home.
Battling a raft of injuries the A grade game looked over within 15 minutes as Tingha ran in three tries to have the Spuds reeling at 16-nil down.
However, the Spuds didn’t concede another point for the last 65 minutes and chipped away at the lead, before pouncing in the last 15 minutes.
Archie Dowden scored Guyra’s first try to cut the score to 16-4 but that was the only time Guyra bothered the scorers in the first half.
After the break Will Archibald finished off a good try to bring Guyra closer at 16-10.
Rave Brazier then finished the next try to leave the Spuds just two points adrift.
It took a spilled bomb off the boot of reserve grade half Anthony Dittman and Billy Youman scooping up the loose ball to finally get Guyra in front, 18-16.
Youman then completed the job with his second from a penalty tap and the Spuds went 24-16 in front with less than 10 minutes to play.
That remained the final score and completed a remarkable effort from a Guyra side that started the game with only 11 fresh players.
Seb Pianko was players’ player and scored two club points, Youman picked up three points and Dittman one.
Earlier in the day the reserves piled on a half century to record their biggest win of the year.
Brad Waters scored three tries and Dittman two as the Spuds ran up a 50-2 scoreline.
Other try-scorers for Guyra were Brock Laybutt, Matt Simpson, Angus Brazier and Luke Allsopp, with Dittman booting seven goals.
Waters was players’ player and earnt three best and fairest points, Erick Klabe received two points and Dittman one.
Barraba’s visit doubles at Sponsors’ Day on Saturday and sees all three grades in action in another important set of fixtures for Guyra teams.
