Spuds Dig Deep in thrilling Semi-Finals

26th Aug 2025

A huge thank you goes out to Glen Innes Minor League for hosting an incredible day of footy during the Major/Minor Semi-Finals on the weekend. With fierce competition, gutsy performances, and plenty of nail-biting moments, the day had everything you’d expect from finals footy.
Intermediate League Tag Girls
In a dramatic clash that went down to the wire, Guyra’s Intermediate League Tag girls dug deep to secure a stunning 24-20 overtime win in their semi-final. With no subs available, and facing the challenge of playing Bingara for the first time, the girls went try for try in a contest that could’ve gone either way.
Their resilience and teamwork shone through when it mattered most. Now, they’re headed to the Grand Final - a massive achievement for a team that gave it their all under pressure. It was an amazing and gutsy effort by all
Senior League Tag Girls
Facing top-ranked Inverell, the Senior League Tag girls were gutsy in a tough 32-12 defeat. The score didn’t reflect the intensity or heart the team showed, especially considering they were short on players.
Despite the loss, their finals journey isn’t over yet - they’ll take on Glen Innes this weekend for a shot at redemption and a Grand Final berth. If their determination is anything to go by, they’re still very much in the fight.
Under 16s Boys
After a flogging by Tenterfield just a week ago, the Guyra the Under 16s bounced back in style, toppling the Tigers 42-24 to keep their finals hopes alive. With solid defence and renewed focus, the boys held off relentless pressure despite numerous penalties.
Harry Purvis had a phenomenal kicking game, while try-scorers included Billy Lockyer, Louie O’Kane (2), Thomas Brazier (2), and Angus Dullaway. Two field goals rounded off a clinical performance. This weekend, they’ll face Glen Innes for their shot at Grand Final glory.
This Weekend: All Eyes on Guyra!
Guyra is proud to host the Preliminary Finals this weekend. With both the Senior League Tag and U16’s teams fighting for a place in the Grand Final, we need as many supporters as possible to come out, cheer loud, and wear Guyra colours proudly.
The day begins at 9.30am. The Senior League Tag team will play at 10.30am and the Under 16s kick off at 1pm.
If results go our way, three Guyra teams could feature in the Grand Finals, which will be held in Warialda. Let’s get behind our Spuds and help push them over the line!
