Hockey report

Guyra 3rd Grade Women faced the newly formed UNE Women’s side on Saturday. The ladies were quick to take the field and, without any subs available, it was important that we worked together to reserve our energy to make the full 60 minutes.
Thanks to our second grade goalie Carla and new member Brooke, we were able to run the ball and Brooke scored two quick goals (two further goals scored later in the game).
Kate Mathews stepped up to play an attacking midfield and did not disappoint, positioning herself perfectly in our attacking circle, she was quick to find the goal three times!! These were sadly missed by the cheering Justin who rarely misses a game as a true Guyra supporter.
With a strong lead going into the final quarter the decision to change our forwards and backs was made. No goals scored in the final quarter but there was a lot of chatter from our backs about the amount of running required up front. Or by our forwards facing a penalty corner, unsure what to do and not keen on the idea of being a postie!
Well done ladies, a good game played in good spirit and credit to UNE for the never give up attitude especially as they build as a side.
Finally Guyra Hockey is running a Golf Ambrose on Sunday 26th April, 10am at the Guyra Bowling Club in support of Cody, Alyssa and little Frankie Patterson. Plenty of prizes and fun to be had even for those not participating in golf. Please come to support this wonderful event and wear red to raise awareness for congenital heart defects. Thank you to all our sponsors and the generous donations from local businesses to help with this event.
