Guyra girls part of winning PLC teams

07th Oct 2025

Guyra local (and 2024 Guyra Young Citizen of the Year) Brianna Marshall was part of the PLC Armidale representative Junior Hockey Team, which won the Division One Grand Final in the Independent Girls’ Schools Association (IGSA) competition in Sydney recently.
The IGSA competition attracts more than 110 teams and 1,500 players, with many participating schools more than eight times the size of PLC Armidale. The team rose to the challenge, defeating Ascham who had been undefeated throughout the season.
Brianna said she was proud of how well the team played.
“The competition this year was tough, with every school giving it their all,” she said.
“We went in confident but focused on playing our best rather than expecting to win. Our success came from strong teamwork, trust, and consistent effort in training. This victory is something our team will always remember.”
Head of Sport, Mrs Lucy Donaldson, described the victory as historic on the back of a local win in the weeks prior.
“To come up against schools many times our size in IGSA and come out on top is truly outstanding.”
Closer to home, the College also celebrated a 2025 Championship win by its Reserve Grade Football team in the Armidale Women’s Premier competition (a team which includes Guyra local Kate Ward).
