Guyra returns firing with win over Ex-Services

13th May 2025

After a well-earned break, the Guyra Men’s team returned to the field refreshed and ready—securing a solid win over Ex-Services on a crisp New England Sunday.
From the opening whistle, Guyra’s centre unit took control, setting the pace and dominating possession. James Wyatt and Andrew Woods finished with clinical precision, while Paul Gellie lit up the match with a stunning aerial strike—already being hailed by many as a contender for goal of the season.
It was a spirited team performance and a well-deserved victory.
And from all the players—Happy Mother’s Day to the legends cheering us on from the sidelines and beyond!

The Fast and Furious as
2nd Grade women take on Albies
A special Mother’s Day for some players as they played alongside their daughters whilst others were cheered from the sidelines. Poppy Post and Shelby Heagney (2nd game of hockey ever) our youngest members worked hard in the midfield especially as a fast pace was set from the beginning.
Guyra had numerous chances at goal with our strikers narrowly missing the mark. Lisa Patterson-Kane had a terrific full field run although the air swing in the circle resulted in a tumble on the turf. Her team mates applauded loudly and gave a helping hand to get her back on two feet!!
On the final whistle a penalty corner was awarded and Emma Wauch made sure we didn’t miss with a convincing shot at goal. The end result was a 2-1 loss although a lot of positives were taken away as the team continues to build momentum.

Olympic Trials for 3rd Grade women against Flamingoes Pink
Little did 3rd Grade know they were pitched against a side trialling for the next Olympics. Not helped by Emma Ellis still racing down The Pinch with the goalie kit as the whistle to start sounded!! The ladies did their best to hold off the onslaught until Bernadette Jackson jumped in goals. And wow she truly stepped up and performed stopping shot after shot. The Olympic trials continued and the Guyra ladies put their bodies on the line especially Sonia Rose in the final minutes taking a nasty hit to her nose. All are wishing her a speedy recovery. Well done ladies on a massive effort, unfortunately no Guyra ladies made it on the Olympic team this round.
