Tough day out at Tingha for Spuds

29th Apr 2025

Guyra is back at home this Saturday against old foe Warialda after a tough trip to Tingha last Sunday.
Both Guyra teams enter Saturday with 1-1 records after bowing to premiership favourites Tingha, but only after a brave effort.
Tingha has been virtually unbeatable in leaguetag for several years and proved too good in a 34-nil win.
Sophie Mitchell was players’ player and earned two club points, Taneika Dailey took three points and Kiarna Landsborough one.
The A grade game also looked like one-way traffic early, but the Super Spuds showed some starch to fight back.
The Tigers shot out to an 18-nil lead before the Spuds got on the board through a Bailey Wilson try.
Wyatt Spiteri-Roberts made it back to back tries for Guyra to cut the margin to six, but Tingha scored just before halftime to lead 24-12.
That became 28-12 after the break, but once again the Spuds fought back through tries to Ock Atkin and Archie Dowden and at 28-22 it was game on.
Unfortunately the home side sealed it with one more try late in the game to finish 32-22 in front.
Skipper Ben Vidler led the way with three club best and fairest points, Archie Dowden picked up two and Bailey Wilson one, while Ock Atkin was players’ player.
A big home crowd would lift the two Guyra teams this Saturday when the Wombats come to town.
Warialda is the reigning champion in A grade and has also started the year with a win and a loss.
Entry is only $5, kids get in free and the bar and canteen will be open.
The club would like to thank Mick Wilson for completing the new bar area at the ground.
