The Super Spuds will go into Saturday’s home clash with Uralla with an even stevens record after a dramatic draw with Tingha last weekend.
Guyra had all the territory in the opening exchanges but had one try disallowed and then watched as the league leaders ran away and scored at the other end.
Points finally came for the home side when Robert Sisson crashed over and Guyra led 6-4.
Further opportunities came to nothing, with another try disallowed, only for Tingha to score against the run of play again.
Just four minutes before halftime the Spuds retook the lead when Sisson crossed for his second after a Corey Torrens offload and the score was 10-8 at the break.
The second half began like the first with Guyra pressuring the Tingha line but unable to come up with points, only for the Tigers to score at the other end and lead 12-10.
Torrens’ high kick led to Guyra’s next try when Harrison Dowden picked up the loose ball and scored and Torrens then threw a looping pass wide to winger Blake Phillips who crossed out wide to push Guyra’s lead out to 20-12.
With time running out the Spuds gave up a penalty goal shot and lived to regret it as Tingha threw the ball around and scored between the sticks to cut the gap to two with two minutes to play.
With one last throw of the dice the Tigers then kicked downfield and forced an offside play from Guyra to give the visitors an easy penalty goal after the final siren to secure a 20-all draw.
Sisson was named players’ player for his efforts, Ben Vidler led the way with three club points and Cormack Hume (2) and Garth Walls (1) also recorded points.
The result leaves them with two wins, two losses and a draw for the season.
Earlier the Spudettes faced the Tingha juggernaut and had no answer.
Unbeaten in the past four years, Tingha took advantage of some early errors to score 14 points in the first half, but only after Guyra defended well against a barrage of Tingha attack.
The second half saw the Tigers add five tries and win it 36-nil, but the Spudettes can take some solace in the knowledge that in the two games this year they have been the most competitive team against Tingha.
Taneika Dailey (3), Danielle Sutton (2) and Kiarna Landsborough (1) scored club points, while Katie Ahoy was players’ player.
Saturday’s games against Uralla precede the club’s fancy dress night at the bottom pub.
Fans are urged to dress as something starting with ‘s’ and join a fun night with the players from 6pm until late.
