Guyra had a bruising day to forget on Sunday as both grades went down to Tingha at the New Red Hill.
The A grade side put up a good fight with only one player on the bench, but couldn’t go on with a 14-6 lead.
After a bad start and an early try to Tingha, Wyatt Spiteri-Roberts got Guyra on the board when he cleaned up his own bomb to score for the Spuds. Ben Vidler converted for a 6-all scoreline.
Guyra made it 10-6 when it ran it on the last and saw Jackson Coote dive over to score.
Riley Campbell then finished the next try after Archie Dowden almost ran the length of the field.
At 14-6 the Spuds were doing well, but once the Tigers got on a roll they scored twice before the break to lead 16-14.
Billy Youman charged over straight after halftime to put Guyra back in front at 18-16, but Tingha scored twice from kicks to forge ahead 28-18.
Both sides lost men to the sin bin before another Tingha try pushed the score to 34-18.
Vidler barged over from dummy half to pull one back for Guyra, but the Tigers added one more before fulltime to end the under-staffed Spuds’ winning run with a 38-24 result.
The players voted Coote as the best for the Spuds and he also polled three best and fairest points. Mani Landsborough received two points and Garth Walls one.
The reserve grade was a similar story as Tingha punished the Spuds’ errors to turn a 16-12 halftime lead into a 32-18 win.
Captain-coach Mark Robinson scored Guyra’s two first half tries and Angus Brazier added the other just after halftime, while Tom Starr booted three goals.
Russell Burnham was players’ player, while Brazier (3), Robinson (2) and Burnham (1) scored best and fairest points.
This Saturday the Spuds have their last regular season game at Uralla before the finals.
