Hockey
The weekend started with a Friday night catch up at the Guyra Royal Hotel as Guyra Hockey took charge of the meat raffles. Plenty of laughs as some happy members headed home laden with meat trays.

Juniors go head to head
Under 8s again stepped up to assist the Under 12 as the Guyra Goats and Guyra Galahs went head to head. Team captains played an intensive game of paper scissor rock to determine who wore the bibs!! With the Galahs now wearing yellow the game started and all spectators were impressed by how the game went from end to end. Laura Jackson had a cracking game as centre forward for the Goats, even running around some older players. William Neill used his strong pass and tackling skills to help distribute the ball all over the field. Although a goal by Elsie Post for the Galahs resulted in a 1-0 result.

Women improve
against ESC
Guyra 3rd Grade women were matched against ESC for Round 8. This was always going to be a tough game due to the strength of the ESC mid field and dominance of certain team players on their side. Excitingly Jules Deshon found the goal box in the first quarter and Guyra was in the lead. Celebrating was short lived as we quickly went on to defend for the next two quarters. Changing tack in the final stages to play a long game, and have Jules cherry pick from the top, was a good strategy. Unfortunately ESC had gained too much of a lead for us to catch. Huge improvement on our previous game against them and planning already underway for when we face them again. Women’s second grade had a bye.

Men battle hard, but fall
short against United
After last week’s forfeit, the Guyra Men’s team rallied hard, managing to field 10 determined players—with a few still MIA.
Facing a full-strength United side, Guyra held their own in a fast-paced and evenly contested match. Despite being one player down, the team played some slick, clinical hockey and headed into halftime locked at 2–2.
They came out firing in the second half, putting one past the keeper within 30 seconds to take the lead. The game wasn’t without a few cheeky moments—some fancy footwork at critical times that, luckily, didn’t draw the attention of the umpire.
But as the clock ticked on, fatigue—and perhaps one too many birthday cakes—slowed the momentum. United capitalised, finishing strong to take the match 5–3.
Recruiters have been working overtime to boost numbers, with hopes of a couple of fresh faces joining the squad after the long weekend. Guyra’s grit and flair were on full display—this team isn’t done yet.
