While the Spudettes cemented their place in the Group 19 semi finals with a big win at Uralla on Sunday, the Super Spuds will have to wait for other results after falling to the home side in terrible conditions.
The Tigers handled the quagmire better than Guyra with three tries to none in the second half relegating the Spuds to a 28-14 loss.
After being stuck in the mud in their own 30m zone for much of the early stages, the Spuds overcame a 6-nil deficit to lead 10-6 after Ock Atkin sliced through for Guyra’s first try and Dylan Sutton finished the second wide on the right.
Uralla scored next to edge in front by two, but the Spuds caught the defence out with a surprise Corey Torrens kick from a scrum into the flooded in-goal for Rave Brazier to sprint through and score.
At 14-12 the Spuds needed to go on with the job, but not much went right in the second half.
Uralla scored two quick tries to lead 22-14 and as the conditions only became worse the mud-soaked Spuds made more errors than the home side and one more Uralla try sealed the result.
Archie Dowden was players’ player and scored two club points while the other club points went to Cameron Waters (3) and Riley Campbell (1).
Earlier the Spudettes ran in 12 tries in a 60-nil mercy rule win.
Shkisha Green, Taneika Dailey, Kiarna Landsborough, Sophie Mitchell and Jasmine Howarth all posted try doubles while Abby Davies and Katie Ahoy were the other try-scorers as Guyra turned a 38-nil lead at halftime into a comprehensive win, despite playing with only 10 players.
Mitchell was players’ player and earnt three club points while Dailey (2) and Landsborough (1) also scored points.
The Spudettes will play in the minor semi final in two weeks against either Moree or Glen Innes.
