20th Jan 2026

The Guyra Showground was filled with energy and excitement the annual Guyra Pony Club Christmas Camp, welcoming riders and families from across the region and beyond.
A total of 70 riders, aged from just three years through to 19, nominated for the camp, with participants travelling from as far afield as the Sunshine Coast, Gunnedah and Manilla to take part. This year’s camp placed a strong emphasis on junior and developing riders, with six full troops dedicated to children under the age of 12. The result was a large, enthusiastic group of young Pony Clubbers enjoying a positive and encouraging environment.
Programs were carefully tailored to rider ability, focusing on confidence, horsemanship, safety and enjoyment alongside skill development. Activities throughout the camp included flatwork, jumping, sporting events, campdrafting, mounted games and horsemanship education.
A positive mentoring culture was evident throughout the camp, with older riders actively supporting and encouraging younger members, reinforcing the strong sense of community that Guyra Pony Club is known for.
The camp concluded with a Pony Club gymkhana and prizegiving, which attracted six visiting Pony Clubs from neighbouring zones. Outstanding performances were recognised, with Champion Hack (Pony or Galloway) awarded to Jessica Fletcher riding Storm. The win was particularly pleasing as Storm is a new horse for Jessica this season, and the partnership continues to develop.
The Champion Guyra Pony Club Rider award was presented to Grace Schaefer riding Priscilla. This award is the Justin Schaefer Memorial Trophy and was presented by Howard Schaefer, Justin’s father and Grace’s grandfather, creating a moving and memorable moment during the presentations.
During the prizegiving, Guyra Pony Club also recognised one of its most dedicated members, awarding Life Membership to Jenny Hiscox. Jenny has been involved with the club for decades and is widely known for her unwavering support of junior riders. She is often seen helping young and nervous riders with encouragement, practical assistance and good humour.
Jenny has supported countless camps, rally days and Jamborees over many years and is regarded as a much-loved and positive presence within the Guyra Pony Club community.
