Farmer Joe’s Lament – Again!

Sadly we are at the end of the season again, and again, my system has failed me. The only positive thing to happen was Manly’s failure to make the top eight.
South Sydney has followed its usual practice. It stopped playing presuming that it would win. However, that’s nothing compared to Wests. I feel that Roy Masters may have to come out of retirement to give Benji a hand next season.
A few of my preferred teams did make it; Canberra, Easts and the Broncos, so it wasn’t a total loss. (Also, Carlton made it into the AFL finals so I may have to dig out my team scarf to wear in the coming weeks).
My system is certainly flawed but it has the advantage of allowing me to get the draw off Martha at the Gazette first thing in the season, pick all my winners for the year (including State of Origin), and not have to watch any of the games!!! Win, Win for me.
Things may become complicated next season if we have a Women’s NRL tipping comp. The women can really play and from what I’ve seen, (not much), I may have some conflicts of interest. For example, normally I’d rarely pick Newcastle in the men’s comp, but I admire the women’s team and like the sound of their coach. Also, I’m not sure my favourites all have a team in the Women’s League.
Anyway, it’s all better than trying to participate in a soccer tipping comp. Those poor players are so skilled, play for longer, have better hair and still end up with a 0-all draw.
