With the regular season coming to a close next weekend, Guyra second grade took to the field for their last home game. They faced the DK Dads’ side who were looking to cement a place in the finals.
Guyra fielded a young side compared to the start of the season and with injuries to the regular team, there were a number of 16s who took part. In the early going it was a close contest with the first points coming from an own goal off a DK corner. This was followed by a breakaway goal from DK to make the score 2-0 at half time.
Although the score didn’t reflect the effort of the side or the tussle of the game, Guyra couldn’t break through the DK defence in the second half, with the Armidale side taking away a 4-0 win.
First grade travelled to Harris Park to take on Westside with Guyra looking to get back in the winning circle after the loss to Inverell. Guyra was missing a few regular players but the players who stepped up from second grade didn’t let the side down.
The side was early to put the pressure on Westside with a goal in the 7th minute. From there the team never really looked back. Westside did get a first half goal from a bad bounce at close range to make the score 2-1 to Guyra, but from there Guyra took command going to half time at 5 -1.
The second half was a contest with the Westside team being fast on the ground. Guyra’s handling proved the difference with the final score been 10-1, goals coming from John Kudu, Corby Kliendienst and Anthony Dittman.
