Caspers head in different directions with mixed results

17th Jun 2025

This past weekend once again seen the two senior teams split with Guyra 3rd Grade side heading to Glen Innes and the 4th Grade side playing in Armidale against Souths.
The 4th Grade team played a much more senior South Armidale side in what was nearly a full-strength Guyra team.
It was very even in the early going with the first goal coming from Souths in the 23rd minute from a cross in which landed straight on the much taller South players head. This didn’t put the Guyra team off, and they played very well at the back end of the second half against a weary Souths.
The Guyra strikers continue to be unlucky with a late second half raid seeing a good shot that the keeper fumbled, then the follow through seen the ball hit the bar and the third attempt deflected off Souths to just go wide.
Guyra started slow in the second half with three goals from Souths in the first ten minutes. Guyra was confident they could get a goal on the board and a wide strike from Eunice, and chances to Jake and Noah, the net could not be found however for a 4-0 score.
It was a second versus third on the ladder when the 3rd grade Guyra Side took on Glen Innes. This was the closest match the team has played in all season with there being nothing in the first half other than some varied calls from the umpire that went against and for both sides.
When Guyra played how they trained, finding the pass and playing the early ball, they were all over the Glen team but a few shots either going wide or over the top of the net.
With an inspired talk at half time from coach Simpson they came back out invigorated. A positional change from the backs to the forwards for Charlie White seen him land Guyra’s first goal of the game just moments after Glen landed theirs. This took the game to 1 all and with what became a shortened game (Glen Crowd).
With Guyra on the attack the score would remain 1 all and the teams holding the same position on the ladder as they took into the game.
The points this week went to Blake Handebo 3, Tristan Brown 2 and Tyson Burey 1.

The Under 6 Phantoms were in Guyra this weekend and took on Easts Green for the second time this season. Last time they played it was a pretty one-sided affair, but the Phantoms held their own this time around and made it a pretty even contest, showing just how much the team are improving. This time the boys really did well, with Edmond Smith leading the charge all game and Bryce Lennon and Acton Litherland also getting into the thick of it and going in for the ball. We also welcomed our newest Phantom, Alfie Mitchell, who had a great first game in the orange and black.
DK forfeited close to the game time so Under 6 Caspers were all at the fields - they had a game between themselves and did so well practicing and trying new skills - they were also very good at cheering each other on!
The Under 7s were again in Armidale this week as their draw is stacked with Walcha sides. This week the team was one short and had Hadiee Hope fill in from the other side. The boys led the way again with great pressure and goal shooting from Frazer McLennan and Fletcher Cleaver.
The Under 8 Goosebumps played South Armidale Swordfish in a home game on the weekend. Guyra had a few players out this week, but it didn’t stop Guyra from playing great in defence and they were also unlucky in attack, hitting the post a couple of times.
Under 10s had the bye this past weekend but will look to shake for the rust in this upcoming weekend when they head to Armidale to play Westside.
The Under 12s played Norths in Armidale this week. Guyra started a little flat this week due to not playing any games for a while , which soon resulted in Norths taking an early lead. This seemed to awaken the Guyra side and they soon started playing like they normally do. With a chat at half time they started the 2nd half much more positively. A few good opportunities weren’t quite finished but eventually a good individual goal from Jack got the scores levelled up. Guyra held strong in defence to end the game as a 1-1 draw. It was a good result, unlucky not to get the win. This week standouts were Jack Marshall, Matthew Sauer in defence, Oscar Laing and Charles Gordon in midfield and Harry McRae had a solid game as striker. Well done
The Under 14s were also in Armidale where they played yet another TAS side. This game though was a much more even contest. With help from a couple of the 12s the team put on a strong display where Kayne Brennan landed a great goal just six minutes into the first half. Less pressure from the TAS side enabled the Guyra side to work the ball around and this saw the score 4 to 0 at the end of the first half. The break didn’t do the side any favours as TAS came out strong and pushed a couple passed through the Guyra Defence, they didn’t panic and defused the situation keeping a clean sheet for a 5 to 0 win. The three goals from Taharn and two to Kayne.
