The Super Spuds marked Anzac Day with contrasting wins in A grade and reserve grade on Saturday to taste their first success of 2026.
The A grade was a one-sided affair with Guyra dominating the visitors from Warialda in a 10-try scoring spree, led by three from Billy Youman.
Three tries to Samuel Briggs, Riley Campbell and Seb Pianko in the first half set up a handy 18-4 lead at the break.
Jackson Coote flashed through straight after halftime and Guyra went ahead 24-4, but more importantly Guyra stepped on the gas and never looked back from this point on.
Youman crashed through for his first, Robert Sisson charged through a gap to add the next and Youman hit the Wombats with a two-try combo in quick time to post his hat-trick.
That made it 46-4 and the game was over as a contest.
Warialda fired back with a couple of tries in the last 15 minutes, but the Spuds added two more of their own via Archie Dowden and Dylan Sutton to secure the 54-14 win.
Dowden booted seven goals, was voted players’ player and also bagged three club points.
Youman (2) and Ben Vidler (1) were the others to gain points, but it was a strong performance across the Park from the home side.
Earlier the reserve graders picked up their first win with a three tries to one success against the Wombats.
Will Archibald opened the scoring and Brett Beard followed up with a second to give Guyra an early 8-nil lead.
Warialda hit back before halftime to leave it 8-4 at the interval, but Tom Starr crashed over soon after the resumption to push Guyra’s lead to 14-4.
Neither side could add to the score in the last 25 minutes so the Spuds took the spoils.
Beard was chosen as players’ player while he also took three clubs points, Starr polled two and Jason Mowbray picked up one on his Guyra senior debut.
The Spudettes almost made it three from three for Guyra, but gave up a 20-6 lead to go down 24-20.
Anna Jackson and Irene Pianko scored in the first half to give Guyra a 10-6 lead.
Further scores to Kayla White and Lorissa Wilson after halftime extended the lead, but Warialda finished the stronger with three tries and booted all of its goals to pinch the win.
Players’ player couldn’t be split between Pianko and Ella Clews, Paige Vickery scored three clubs points, Pianko took two and White one.
This Sunday the Guyra teams make the trip to Barraba to take on the Bulldogs.
