Junior Soccer report

Junior Soccer
Junior soccer has returned for the year and as a club Guyra United are very happy with the number of returning and new faces across the teams.
The Under 6 Phantoms played their first game of the season this weekend, travelling down to Armidale to take on the Norths Red Rhinos. After losing a few key players from last year, the Phantoms had to recruit well in the off season. And that they did, bringing in the progeny of some of the Caspers best, with Lottie Burey and Wynafred Starreveld making their long awaited debuts. All the kids put in a massive effort and played on the field the entire game. Lottie kicked her first goal with a level of nonchalance that suggests there could be many more to come. Great game by all the Phantoms and their supporters!!
The Under 8 Goosebumps got off to a great start this season with a win against East Armidale. They were all impressive with their team work and ball skills. Fraser, Jack and Nathaniel all played well contributing to the win.
It’s a big team in the Under 10s this year but everyone was happy to have their first run. They took on Westside, where the Williams twins couldn’t be held back both getting goals, along with Vinnie. Guyra was all over Westside and had a lot of near misses as well. They look forward to playing at home this weekend.
The Under 14s took the field and is Guyra’s only competitive junior team this year. That means there are players playing well above their age group. That didn’t deter them against a much older Norths team. They started out strong but Norths movement lead to a goal, this was quickly followed up by a second, for 2 to nil score line at halftime.
The team took the field for the second half and were much better in the early stage, going with a couple of great saves from the keeper and excellent defensive efforts. However norths finished strong and run out 4 to nil winners.
There is plenty to build on at training and look to bounce back against Easts on Saturday.
