Caspers go down in both grades to Westside

20th May 2025

Guyra United’s two senior sides both took the field at Harris Park against Westside on Saturday.
The 4th grade side started on the bigger field against the undefeated Westside team with years of experience.  Westside caught the team in a slow start and run out to an early 2 to nil lead.
In what has been the way this season, the Guyra side pulled it back and played an excellent 25 minutes leading into half time. This saw a goal coming from a corner that bounced around in the goal box before eventually ending up going in for a 2 to 1 scoreline. Then, against the run of play, Westside hit back to make the score 3 to 1 at half time.
Guyra started the second half in the same fashion matching the play from Westside but they were unable to keep it up and Westside took the game 6 to 1.
The 3rd grade side took to the park then on a much smaller field, Guyra started flat and soon found themselves 2 nil down. The team rallied hard in the second half but the game eventually ended in a heavy loss. With Guyra goals coming from inside the box and outside both off penalties.
This was the story of the game, with a number of goals coming from penalties where the referee had his cards running hot towards both sides.
Points this week went to Tristan Brown 3, Cooper 2 and Rob 1.
This weekend both teams travel to Armidale to play TAS looking to get themselves back into the winner’s circle.
