Caspers to take on DK at home in finals

02nd Sep 2025

Guyra United’s 3rd grade side was playing to cement their position on the ladder and take a mental advantage into the finals over the Demon Knights team.
It was two different teams that took to the fields in a rematch from a month ago, this led to a much closer game. We saw a number of balls hit the posts and bounce out into the field for both sides.
The scoring was eventually opened by Angus Shepherd in the 40th minute of the game. To the spectator’s surprise at how hard the first goal was to come by, the second came from the same man two minutes later through some great lead up work in the middle of the field.
After the half time break DK seemed refreshed and unlikely to repeat the lapse going into the break. There were a number of scoring opportunities from DK turned away with a big defensive effort from the backs. Points this weeks -n 3 to Tristan Brown, 2 to Angus and 1 to Sujit Sah.
It will be the first week of the finals this weekend, it will be the rematch with Guyra vs DK but this time in Guyra.
Kick off will be at 3pm it would be great to see some people at the game to support the boys on and get them on the way to the grand final at the end of September.
Junior Soccer
The normal soccer season has come to a close for the 12 and 14 age groups, with both just missing out on playing in finals. There are still two weeks remaining for the 6 through to 10 age groups.
This past weekend saw the under 14s side finish on a high against TAS in horrible weather. The scoring was opened early from Peter Grills for Guyra, the bouncing ball soon got away from the Guyra keeper to see TAS level it up soon after. The game was in the balance at half time with a 3 all score line and was anyone’s to win. Some positional changes from the Guyra side saw them go up on the scoreboard and take control. The game ended 6 to 3 with two goals to Peter, one to Charles Drew, one to Zac Raper and one to Rachael Jackson. A big thankyou to the under 12s players who have filled in all season, without them there wouldn’t have been a 14s side.
The Under 8s played TAS in Armidale it was a close game with jackets and pants in full force. TAS seemed to have one standout player and once the Guyra team got on top of him it was a different game. It was a great team effort with big corners from Eli, breakaway up field runs from Orlando, Vinnie and Stirling and the girls in the back gave it their all.
Presentation this year will be on the 14th September at the Soccer field kicking off at 11am.
It was the last game for the season for Casper’s 4th grade side who missed out on the finals race. They played Norths United who were in a similar position on the table and this made it a great game to finish out the year. The scoring was opened early with a penalty just outside the box. It was taken by Tom Lockyer, who just hit the post and a great follow through from Lincoln Brown seen him land the opener for Guyra.
Despite many more attempts from the Guyra team nothing seemed to want to go in, all hitting posts or just missing wide. Norths opened their scoring late in the first half to level up the scores at half time. This is how it would remain the rest of the game with a 1 all draw to wrap up the season. It has been a year of strong performances and not many wins for the team. Hopefully everyone has had a bit of fun and will return next season.
