Under 8s Goosebumps played Walcha this week, another impressive performance by the boys, where they continued their winning streak. They made the most of their opportunities scoring six goals. Fletcher and Orlando got a couple each Jack played his best game yet. A great effort all round, well done everyone.
Under 14s team took on top of the table Armidale Westside at Harris park. It was a very close game for the first thirty minutes with score been nil all then an extra-long half seen Guyra fatigue and Westside capitalised with two late goals in the first half. Still in half time mode the Guyra team was caught napping with two quick goals in the first few minutes of the second half. They pulled it back after that and matched Westside but were unable to land any goals this week.
The senior sides played South Armidale in Armidale on a beautiful afternoon weatherwise.
Fourth grade kicked off against a very experienced Souths side, they showed the effects of not playing for three weeks and were caught out in the backs in the third minute with souths quickly posting the first goal.
Guyra muscled up and had their opposition for speed, but handling errors and souths experienced defence denied a couple of opportunities Guyra had in the first half. Souths managed a steady stream of goals all throughout the first half going to the break at six to nil.
Guyra composed themselves at half time and were much improved team in the second half, going blow for blow with souths and having a number of opportunities on goal but were able to find the back of the net. Souths managed two late goals and an own goal for Guyra seen the score blow out to nine to nil at full time.
Third-grade game with Guyra looking to have the more experienced side, Sammi opened the scoring five min in for Guyra. That sparked Souths and it was a very tight contest for the following twenty five minutes until Guyra star Angus broke through and scored another goal. Souths hit back in the first play after the kick off with a goal of their own, then a penalty in the box to south seen them get a second goal only moments from their first.
The half time score was two all and didn’t reflect Guyra dominance, Souths seemed to have Guyra rattled with their third unanswered goal to take the lead early in the second half. Guyra lifted and Aidan Brown capitalised on a run of possession levelling up the score in the seventy fifth minute.
From the sideline it looked like the game would end in a draw with both sides unable to maintain any possession, in the dying minutes a terrific hit from Charlie White seen Guyra take the lead and the win 4 to 3. Both team head back to Armidale this weekend to take on Westside in what is always a physical affair. The club would like to extend an invitation to everyone for their upcoming ladies day on the twenty seventh of June with home matches against North Armidale with kick-off at 1pm
