The Senior teams both took the field against Demon Knights on Saturday. It was 4th grades first game in three weeks and for some players first game in five weeks. This didn’t show, with Guyra showing determination in a very good defensive game. The whole team came together and worked in attack combining for the first goal just two minutes before the half time break, that goal was scored by Tom L.
The half-time talk was about patience and consistency with the side having the lead in a few games the season only to give it up. The lead was lost in the second half 20 minutes in with some sharp play from the DK side. The Caspers rallied and Jake T hit back with only five minutes to go.Very confident they could hold on, our hopes were dashed when the go to man for DK landed another with two minutes to go ending the game in a 2 all draw. The team should be very proud of this game as it shows how much they have improved from the start of the season.
The 3rd grade side looked to move into second place on the ladder but were again plagued by work commitments and injuries which saw five of the regular starters out. The players there stepped up, aided by 4th grade players to come out strong holding off a very aggressive forward pack from DK.
The half time score was nil all and like many games this season one goal would make or break the game, despite continual efforts from Normi in the middle who had a number off attempts at goals only to be shut down by DK defence.
DK broke the deadlock 15 minutes into the second half, but the Caspers didn’t give up and Sammi managed to get through and equal the score. The game ending 1 all draw and competition point for Guyra.
Three points this week went to Angus S effort on effort in the midfield, 2 to Blake H who is always keeps Guyra in the game from the centre back position and 1 point to Sammi who pressed DK goals all day.
