Golfers gather to honour an absolute champion

28th Nov 2023

At Guyra Golf Course on Sunday November 26th, a crowd of golfers gathered to witness the unveiling of a Memorial Plaque in the garden behind the 3rd Green.
The plaque was funded by the Guyra Lady Golfers to commemorate the outstanding achievement of Marie Beesley, who was the Ladies’ Club Champion 22 times; with her first win being in 1956.
It was Marie Beesley who donated the plants for the garden behind the 3rd green, in 2004. We thought that was a fitting spot to install the Memorial. Bruce Beesley, his wife Jan and son Rob were present to unveil the plaque.
Bruce Beesley also presented the ladies’ current club champion, Kerry Bull, with the new Marie Beesley Memorial Championship Trophy.
This trophy came about as the ladies’ Honour Boards, held at the club, were no longer kept updated and had been removed.
Both the Memorial Plaque and the new trophy are testament to Marie; an absolute Champion and a wonderful supporter of Guyra golf over the years and a golfing friend to so many.
My thanks to the Guyra ladies who were involved in the work to install the rock and plaque, and also to everyone who turned up on the day to witness the event.
