Ladies Golf & Sports Briefs

09th Sep 2025

Last week the Ladies played a Par Medal back on our home course. The winner was Wendy Jackson. The runner up was Deb Heffernan. Shona Mulligan won the nearest the pin on the 9th hole.
Also last week some of the ladies played in the Graham Betts Final in Uralla. Every year Graham Betts Motors sponsor the event played between the Guyra, Walcha, Uralla, and Armidale clubs. Leonie Taylor continued her winning streak and won the jewellery for Guyra. Well done Leonie.
This week is a Stableford. Next week is a Stroke and Putting Competition.

Vets Golf
Last Tuesday the 2nd of September we were very pleased to be back on the Guyra Golf course after the big snow and lots of rain.
The greenkeepers are to be commended having it in such great shape after very trying conditions. Hopefully with the weather warming up we will see some good fields returning to our beautiful mother of Ducks course, maybe even some weekenders.
The Vets are keeping the flag flying though, and our first week back boasted 13 players for the Reg Taylor Shield. Robert Moore and Ian Taylor both scored 81 off the stick with Robert winning the nett and Ian getting the scratch event. Ian won the only NTP and Robert was the best putter.
Warren McGowan very generously runs an Eagle nest competition for the Vets and because it hasn’t gone off for a while he did a card draw. This was won by Ian Taylor. Ian and Leonie always donate balls to our week of golf and Ian indicated that that’s where these will be going.
Golf next Tuesday is a stableford event after which we will hold our AGM.

Sunday Golf
With fingers crossed we are hoping for a 2 man Ambrose to be played this Sunday. This will be 7 holes out the front being played twice. We hope for a good roll up to hopefully kick off a great Spring and Summer of Golf in Guyra.
The following weekend will be the second round of the Shire Cup to be played again in Armidale so we hope all of our selected players are available for this.
That is all for the moment but will keep you informed in newspaper and Jen’s Facebook page.
HAPPY GOLFING

Junior Soccer
The Under 6 Phantoms hosted the Uralla Bears on the weekend for the second time this season. As always, the whole team put in a great effort and did some really good chasing down in defence to stop a lot of goals and also managed to have a few great runs in attack scoring a couple of goals. We’re looking forward to our final game next weekend.
Under 6 Caspers played East’s in a home game this week, they worked together to build a solid defence but came up against a very strong team. We are so proud of how our little team has developed this year!
The Under 7 Spooks had a tough game against a very strong TAS side. With a couple of sick players we were thankful for the help of Anna, Banjo and Cooper who stepped up and played for our team. Stand out player was Fletcher who had some fancy footwork and had a number of good runs. He made sure each player had their turn at kicking. Very proud of all of our team.
The Under 8 Goosebumps played DK Ninjas in Guyra this week. In one of the better games Guyra has played this season everyone played well in attack and our defence was strong, not letting DK have many shots and our passing and attacking runs with the ball were excellent. Great games Elinor, Haidee, Eli, Orlando, Thomas, Stirling and Vinnie
Under10s Phoenix played Armidale Crocodiles this week in Guyra. This would have to be one of the better games Guyra has played! Our team came up with some great attacking, strong defence, and even better sportsmanship. An excellent game had by all, and I am so proud of how we have all improved this season.
