The Armidale racecourse was picture perfect on Sunday for the running of the 2023 Watson McNamara & Watt Solicitors Guyra Cup.
There were seven races on the day, proudly supported by Guyra businesses and with a large contingent of racegoers making their way down the hill for the event.
There was good support for the race meeting with trainers from Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Wauchope, Scone, Muswellbrook, Tamworth and Inverell all making the trip.
The feature event on the day was the Guyra Cup which was won by Indifference, ridden by jockey Luke Rolls from Port Macquarie.
The horse is trained by Brett Cavanagh at Scone who also trained last year’s Armidale Cup winner.
Indifference came from behind at the turn to win the race easily in the straight. Jockey Ben Looker got a trio of wins on the day.
The next meeting at Armidale will be on Sunday December 3rd with the running of the Armidale Cup. Jockey Club secretary Jim Dedes is hoping for another fine day. He expects a couple of Sunday’s winner to back up for the Armidale Cup and thinks there is a chance the Guyra Cup winner Indifference could step up to the extra distance along with Benmark 58 Handicap winner Hombre Grand.
Other winners on the day were:
Race 1 CG & E Maiden Plate winner Exsensible
Race 2 Dasha’s Hardware/Kirks IGA Guyra F & M Maiden Plate winner Winged Beauty
