Caspers tough it out to host home Grand Final

08th Sep 2026

It was a game worthy of the grand final on Saturday when Guyra, who finished minor premiers, took to the field against Glen Innes. It has been a close tussle all season between the two sides and neither has had a real advantage despite the win to Glen earlier in the season.
The game was close for the full 120 minutes with the game going to extra time then to a very tense shootout to decide the victor. Desperate saves from both keepers in the first half the sides went in at nil all and again one goal looked like it would win the match.
After the break Guyra controlled the ball extremely well and pressured Glen ,whose defence stood up to the challenge. Guyra did face its own problems in the middle, but fresh legs and a huge defensive effort kept Glen a bay. After 90 minutes the two teams couldn’t be separated and we went into extra time (total 30 minutes).
The first half of extra time seen the Glen striker bust through Guyra’s defence and slot a goal past the keeper, his celebration fitting of a world cup win. Guyra dashed his hopes with a light-footed Angus S dancing through Glen backs before providing a cross to Aidan B who for the second week in a row landed the equaliser.
Again all locked up at full time it went to a shootout, with Guyra’s form not great in a shootout the pressure was really on. When Glen missed their first and Damian H saved the second the pressure was really on Glen. Guyra went on to land 4 goals to the Glen’s 3 earning them a week off and a spot in the Grand Final.
I’m led to believe this will be the first ever in Guyra and we hope to get a good crowd there to cheer the boys home on the 19th September.
