Men's Bowls report

18th Feb 2020

There were four Club Championship games contested over the weekend.
In Open Singles David Wilcox played Col Stanley. This was a great game to mark as David and Col could not be separated for the first nine ends, at this stage the scores were 6 shots all. Col surged ahead after this but David soon found his game and closed the lead but Col only wanting one shot and this he achieved on end 34 taking the win 31 shots to 18 shots.
Also in Open Singles, Andrew Sparke played Steven Sole. In this game Andrew opened a handy only to see it disappear by end 10 when the scores were even on 10 shots all. Andrew then set about opening a lead again and by end 26 he held an 11 shot advantage. Steven fought back and managed to overtake the lead by 1 shot, but in true fashion Andrew stuck to his ability to draw shots and with this managed to take a victory 31 shots to 30 shots over 37 ends.
A game of Minor Singles was also played and that was between Geoff Reeves and Ken Jones. This was a very closely contested game, firstly one would get a lead and then the lead would change with the other player taking the lead. Ken Jones was the eventual winner 23 shots to 23 shots over 30 ends after Geoff retired injured.
The other game played was a Handicap Singles played between Robert Walls (+1) and Ian Jones (+0). Robert started well but Ian soon made his intensions clear by drawing even by end 7. This was as close as he might get as Robert slowly drew away and went on to take the win 31 shots to 20 shots over 31 ends.
