Golf course record broken

Mick Purvis shot an exceptional score of 68 or 5 under par, one shot better than the former golf course record
12th Dec 2023

On Sunday December 3rd, Guyra hosted the annual N.E.D.G.A Pennants tournament. Guyra were well represented with one Scratch team and three nett teams in a strong field of 110 golfers from all over the region. The wind was a big challenge, but the scoring was impressive.
Two Guyra nett sides were equal on points with the number 3 team consisting of Scott Mendes, Steven Wilson, Neil Paine, Dave Bearup, Brett Little, Peter Jackson, Len Stanley and Jim Betts winning on countback.
Our Scratch team were chasing a win in a level they had not won before. They finished the day level with the highly credentialed Armidale team, but unluckily lost on countback. They were defeated but far from disgraced and can hold their heads high.
Individual winners were:
C Grade Winner- P Hall Runner Up M Groth
B Grade Winner Neil Paine (Guyra) Runner Up Bruce Coppock
A Grade Winner- Scott Youman (Guyra) Runner Up P Ince (Guyra)
The individual winner of the day with a new course record was Mick Purvis (Guyra).
Mick shot an exceptional score of 68 or 5 under par, one shot better than the former record held by Mick and John (Hockey) Kennedy.
Congratulations to Mick on a well-deserved record. He has dominated the Championships for years and no one deserves this accolade more than Mick. I’m sure all golfers would agree.
Overall this day was a huge success and all the visitors were rapt in the condition of the course and the overall running of the competition. The recording of scores and winners was carried out by an awesome group of ladies who donated their time to ensure that our Pennants day was a day to remember. The ladies were Wendy Jackson, Wendy George, Jenny Rogers, Kerry Bull, Leonie Taylor, Nancy Prisk, Marie Grills, Helen Bearup, and Karen Oehlers - thank you so much for all your help.
Another big wrap to our Vet Golfers and Green Keeper Shane Brennan who held a working bee on Thursday and made sure that our course was pristine, enabling great scores like Mick’s to be possible. Thank you so much to all the Vets for their ongoing commitment to the bettering of the course.
Also a big thanks to Donna and her helpers in the kitchen for supplying all the golfers with a great meal especially while there was a huge Bowls Carnival on. A huge effort - thank you Donna.
And last but not least Hammond’s supplied a discount on our major prizes which enabled us to present great awards to our winners and runners up. If you have not looked at Raymy and Kristy’s shop check it out. Thank you Raymy and Kristy.
It was good to see so many Guyra Golfers enjoying our course congrats to everyone who participated. Happy Golfing.
