Last Tuesday the 16th was the last round of the Veterans Pennants held in Armidale. 20mm of rain overnight made for a bleak start for the day and it looked like it would be a heavy track.
Twenty-three Vets, male and female fronted up for this final round. Guyra were very fortunate to be going in with a handy lead after four previous solid rounds.
Although the home side, Armidale, narrowly won the day we were able to maintain our lead to come out the district pennant winners for 2023.
We were very lucky to take an early lead over Walcha because they were breathing down our necks for the final rounds to get runner up.
The final count was, Guyra 1184, Walcha 1130, Glen Innes 1090, Armidale 1060 and Uralla 1019.
Guyra also had some individual success on the day with Shona Mulligan winning the ladies division and Deb Heffernan runner up. Jon Cumming was a runner up in A grade and Wal Chapman runner up in the C grade.
We always have a great number of vets, men and women support the pennants, we enjoy it, we enjoy the company and I believe that is why we do so well.
Vets in Guyra is alive and thriving. Come and join us. Next week is our 4 BBB stableford.
Drake.
