Cricket

Cricket gets underway this weekend and Guyra will be fielding four junior and three senior teams in the Armidale District Competition. The first grade competition was under threat due to water restrictions which meant the preparation of turf wickets was under threat. Only two ovals, the Guyra Turf and TAS Oval, will be available for play. Both venues have access to bore water.
This weekend will see Guyra play Hillgrove at Ted Mulligan Oval in first grade, second grade will be up against Easts at Newling Oval and third grade will be at home against TAS at the Lions Park Sporting Complex (Truckstop).
Junior cricket has increased in popularity and this year will see two under 10 teams, an under 12 and an under 14 team representing Guyra. The first round of games will be played this weekend, however draws are not yet available.
All players are asked to get along to training on Thursday afternoon at the recreation ground cricket nets, where the draw will be available. Vets Golf

Last Tuesday the 8th saw a very windy and challenging day for golf. The results showed how difficult it was. At one stage a hat went further than a drive and faster than a cart.
The winner of the Individual Stableford was Col Walls with a score of 35 ahead of the runner-up Pat Grills and Herb Wilson on 34. Herb also was the best putter on the day.
Nearest the pins went to Wal Chapman on the 7th, Herb Wilson the 10th and Paul Redden the 18th.
On Melbourne Cup day the 5th November we will again be holding a 2 person Ambrose over 14 holes. The cost for the day will be $20 including a lunch put on by the Club. The Walcha 4BBB is on this coming Friday and a reminder that Midweek Golf starts on Monday 21st.
