Season opener for Spuds doubles as Old Boys day

The grand final winning team of 2006 will reunite for the 2026 season opener
07th Apr 2026

The Super Spuds kick off the 2026 Group 19 season with a huge day at the New Red Hill this Saturday.
Not only is it the season opener for the Guyra teams, but it is also a reunion for the 2006 Guyra A grade premiership side and Old Boys’ Day.
Guyra takes on Group 19 premiers Inverell in a tough first test for the season, but will have the champions from 20 years ago in the stand to cheer them on.
Back then Guyra beat Inverell 26-6 at the old Red Hill to claim its fourth premiership in five years.
This year Jamie McCormack returns but as coach of the opposition after steering the Hawks to the title last year.
The Spuds have most of last year’s team back on deck with a few new faces in the squad.
Captain-coach Ben Vidler will lead the team again. The Spudettes will kick-off the day.
They take on a very different look with a number of new players and some returning after a few years off, coached by club president John Atkin.
The club will also use Old Boys’ Day to unveil seven new flags to be displayed at home games.
Each flag commemorates one of Guyra’s seven first division A grade premierships, including the last one in 2006.
The bar and canteen will be up and running.
Keep an eye on the club Facebook page for more details about the day later in the week.
