Guyra enjoyed a clean sweep at Warialda last Saturday that included a maiden win for the Spudettes and two strong performances from the under-manned men’s teams.
In A grade the Super Spuds got off to a great start on the back of an early hat-trick by Jayden Field in his return to the top grade.
Good hole running off skipper Ben Vidler accounted for two of those tries, while the other came from an athletic effort to drag an Anthony Dittman grubber kick down to force it just inside the dead ball line.
Vidler landed two goals from three to give Guyra a 16-nil lead.
Warialda hit back with a try of its own, but Archie Dowden scooted down a blind side and scored Guyra’s fourth and Mitch Wratten finished the fifth after a Field offload just before halftime to give the visitors a 24-6 halftime lead.
Vidler opened the scoring after the break to push the lead to 30-6 and despite a hit-back try by the Wombats, the Guyra defence mostly held firm.
Late in the game the Spuds sealed it when Billy Youman got an offload to Dowden and he raced away for his second and sealed a 36-12.
Garth Walls was chosen as players’ player and picked up the three club points for his efforts up front, while Field (2) and Youman (1) were the other point-winners.
The reserve grade game followed a similar script with Mark Robinson scoring early and Dittman slicing through twice to score a quick double as Guyra went up 16-nil.
That became 22-nil just before the break when Wratten went over for his first.
Warialda fought back in the second half but Wratten’s second try kept Guyra clear and Field then posted his first try of the day to complete the game and a 32-10 win.
Corbi Byers was voted players’ player while the club points went to Dittman (3), Field (2) and Byers (1).
After a tough season the Spudettes produced their best performance and earnt a 32-16 win.
Paige Vickery showed her class with three first half tries and Lorissa Wilson added one to establish a 20-6 lead.
Kayla White crossed for Guyra’s fifth early in the second half and then Wilson ran in her second to ensure the girls finally got the payoff for their efforts this year.
The boot of Alli Burey also contributed four goals.
Katie Ahoy polled the most players’ player votes in a strong field while Vickery (3), Burey (2) and Shaynia Duncan (1) picked up club points.
This Sunday is Guyra’s last home game of the season with Tingha visiting in reserve and A grade.
