The Guyra Caspers produced two of their best performances of the season on Saturday, with 3rd grade powering to a convincing 6-1 victory over North Armidale. Guyra made a blistering start, with Tyson Burey and Matt Simpson finding the back of the net early to race out to a 2-0 lead.
Norths responded with a goal to reduce the margin, but the Caspers quickly regained control as Man of the Match Norman Miniti struck twice before halftime to send Guyra into the break with a commanding 4-1 advantage.
Guyra continued to dominate in the second half, with ever-reliable Sammy Adhikari adding his name to the scoresheet before Rob Starreveld capped off the impressive team performance with the Caspers’ sixth goal.
The emphatic 6-1 win showcased Guyra’s attacking firepower and teamwork, with the Caspers proving far too strong across the park in a dominant display. Guyra travel to Glen Innes next Saturday looking to keep the good form rolling.
The 4th grade side started Ladies’ Day with Ed Collins opening the scoring for Guyra in the 10th minute. It was a tight contest for the rest of the half with both sides having their chances. In honour of Ladies Day the three ladies had their best performances of the season with Ash and Gemma both taking home two coaches’ points.
It wasn’t until the 60th minute when Jake Tibbs would get Guyra’s second goal and from there it was Guyra’s game to lose.
Norths never gave up and fought back grabbing a goal in 78th minute. Guyra got the jitters, not having the opportunity to close out a game this season, and Norths managed a goal in the final minutes to level the match.
The action then moved to the Royal Hotel where the club held a very successful auction with money raised going to the Breast Cancer Foundation. Just a touch over $4300 was raised for the cause, through the generous item donations from local business and spirted bidding from Guyra locals.
Junior Soccer
The Under 10s combined in a great team effort to come from behind against DK. DK took a two-nil lead before Guyra came storming home with three goals of their own. It was a great effort from the all the defenders who kept a lid on the DK attack.
The Under 14s played DK in Guyra in what was one of their best performances of the year. Guyra opened the scoring early in the match then DK soon followed it up with one of their own. The team combined well in defence to hold off the DK side. Despite some excellent passing from Guyra and a couple near misses there was no change to the scoreline at fulltime.
