Vets Open a great success

Michael Kirk got a Hole in One on the 10th receiving his prize from Sponsor Darrin Towells from New England Autos
12th Mar 2024

What a great success the VETS GUYRA OPEN was! Held over two days we had many visitors from far and wide, with many an accolade given to the Guyra vets and the superb condition of our golf course.
These days happen because of the huge contribution and support of many sponsors. Darrin and Suzanne Towells from New England Autos have been supporting us for many years and 2024 was no exception. Thanks you guys so much, and if you are looking for new wheels to get around and give them a call, they won’t let you down.
The Guyra Bowling Club was once again on board. Betty and David were there both days to greet us and anything we asked for was not a problem. Thank you to our club.
The Hill family, all avid golfers, contributed to us once again this year and for that we say thank you.
Nutrient Ag Solutions is another long term sponsor and we thank you heaps. The Costa group have been so good for so long. Again we thank them so much.
Steve Bishop from the travelling golf shop as always supplied us with many trophies over the two days and for that we are very grateful.
Our Sydney visitors never come empty and this year was no exception - thank you. If I have missed anyone please let me know so we can give you the acknowledgment you deserve.
On the first day, Monday the 4th, it was the 4BBB open. Forty two players was a little down on previous years, but those that were there had a ball.
Mick Kirk and Scott Mendes combined like the true champions they are to come in the winners. Close behind and runners up went to Mick Jackson teaming up with ex Guyra identity Dale Tierney. NTPs went to Mick Jackson on the 7th, Trish McCanna on the 9th and Keith Carter on the 10th. Straightest drives went to Keith Carter for the men and Jenny Tierney for the ladies.
Tuesday we increased our numbers to 62 for the Guyra Vets Open. The highlight of the day went to Mick Kirk with a hole in one on the 10th. Great shot Mick and thanks again to wonderful sponsorship from New England Autos Mick walked away with quite a substantial prize.
Guyra open A grade winner with a great score of 42 points went to Peter Jackson. Runner up close behind with 39 points was Terry Varley.
In the B grade, and helped by that hole in one, Mick Kirk was the winner. Jon Cumming was runner up on a count back from Paul Redden. In C grade Dale Tierney was the winner with Ken Palich runner up. For the ladies the winner was Patricia Fulford and Jenny Rogers the runner up.
NTPs went to Terry Varley on the 7th, Carol Sheilds on the ninth. On the 10th Mick Kirk, hole in one and on the 18th Rowan Chandler. Straightest drive for the men was John Prisk with May Fleming getting the Ladies. Thank you to the small group of Vets that make these days happen and their team.
