The 2025 Guyra Timepiece Campdraft has been hailed as one of the most successful drafts in the event’s proud history, with record entries, exceptional cattle, landmark achievements and overwhelming community support.
Held across the fourth weekend of November, the event once again showcased Guyra’s reputation as one of Australia’s most vibrant and well-run country drafts. This year’s draft made history with the first-ever presentation of custom trophy buckles, proudly sponsored by the Royal Hotel Guyra.
The unveiling of the buckles generated enormous interest on social media in the lead-up to the weekend, and their presentation in the arena was met with huge applause from competitors and spectators alike. The buckles are set to become a cherished annual tradition.
Local sponsorship again proved the backbone of the event. Businesses from across the Northern Tablelands and New England regions rallied strongly behind the Guyra Campdraft Club, with more than 60 sponsors contributing to prize money, cattle donations, infrastructure, and volunteer support. The club’s Facebook page saw unprecedented engagement, with thousands following updates throughout the weekend and celebrating the achievements of local riders.
A major highlight was the fiercely contested Northern Tablelands Earthmoving $10,000 Open Draft, which drew elite combinations from across the state. After a thrilling final round, the event was won by Millungeras Moon Beam, capably piloted by Luke Bennett. Their outstanding run quickly became one of the most talked-about performances of the season, earning widespread praise across social media and setting a new benchmark for the event.
The 2025 draft also featured a deeply meaningful moment with the conferring of Life Membership upon Blake and Helen Finlayson. Both have served the Guyra Campdraft Club with decades of dedication, leadership, and hands-on commitment. Their life membership ceremony, held centre-arena, was a moving tribute to two people who have contributed enormously to the club’s growth and community culture.
Despite volatile weather patterns across the region, Guyra was fortunate to miss the worst of the storms, allowing the program to run smoothly and safely. The club worked tirelessly behind the scenes to maintain excellent ground conditions, and competitors praised the cattle quality, organisation, and steady flow of events across all classes.
The Guyra Campdraft Club extended heartfelt appreciation to:
• Cattle donors, whose generosity ensured top-quality runs throughout the program
• Competitors from across NSW and QLD, many travelling significant distances
• Local businesses and major sponsors, whose financial and in-kind support make the event possible
• The hardworking committee, whose planning and teamwork delivered another standout draft
• Truck drivers, who ensured safe and timely delivery of cattle
• Volunteers, without whom a draft of this scale cannot succeed
President and committee representatives said the 2025 draft demonstrated “the best of Guyra - community pride, horsemanship excellence, and the spirit of the Australian campdrafting tradition.”
With growing numbers, increasing sponsorship, and the introduction of the trophy buckles, the Guyra Timepiece Campdraft continues to build momentum as a premier regional event. The club looks forward to welcoming competitors and supporters back in 2026.
