Heading into final weeks

Junior soccer is heading into the final weeks of the season with the majority of games being held in Armidale. The Under 6s – Under 10s have two rounds left with their last games for the season being played on the 7th of September. The Under 12 – Under 16s will play their last normal round this Saturday 31st August with our qualifying teams heading into the semi-finals the following Saturday. We wish our Senior first grade team luck in their semi-final against Inverell this week. All Grand Final games for Juniors and Seniors will be held in Armidale on the 14th of September.
Please note that the Guyra United Soccer Club with be holding their Presentation Day for Juniors and Seniors on Saturday 21st September from 11.00am. The family day will be held at the Guyra Recreation Fields (weather permitting) with a BBQ lunch and fun activities for the whole family. Further details to follow next week.
Under 6 Spooks - travelled to Armidale to face a good side with one particularly talented goal scorer. Guyra was able to add another 5 goals to their season’s impressive tally. Corey Banfield continues to show true sportsmanship and talent.
Under 12 Spirits - continued to fight hard under difficult circumstances with another great game this week. Despite a late start the team maintained their nerve and started the game strongly. A hand ball by the DK team saw a penalty shot go to Cooper Reeves and he found the back of the net giving Guyra a 1-0 lead. The score was soon levelled by DK and they added a second goal before half time taking a 2-1 lead. The Spirits returned to the field in the second half and played strongly allowing only one more goal to be added to the DK tally. Guyra also added a great goal from a brilliant team effort finding the boot of our leading goal scorer Cooper to leave the final score at a very respectable 3-2 to DK. The Spirits are looking forward to the final round this weekend before they enter the semi-finals in a fortnight.
