120 players contest Vets Pennants

Ladies B grade winner Shona Mulligan with Wal Chapman
24th Feb 2026

A record number of golfers turned up in Guyra to contest the third round of District pennants. So many helpers on the day and I’m not going to try and name you all but thank you. A special mention though to Wal Chapman who coordinated it all and the day ran smooth as silk. Also a special Mention to Betty and her crew from the Bowling Club. The help and support they give us certainly make our job so much easier.
The home club advantage saw Guyra get the win to bring us from last place to third just four points off the lead and two rounds left to play, the next in Uralla and finishing in Glen Innes.
Lots of individual winners, first to our Vet ladies. Over 30 of them was fantastic and the boost they give to Vets golf is brilliant. In ladies B the winner was Shona Mulligan to runner up Sue Kelly from Armidale. In ladies A grade the winner was Rosie Price to Runner up Deb Heffernan.
In the men the large field enabled us to run four grades and the winners were: A grade Peter Jackson, B grade was Duncan McClean, C grade Scott McLeod and D grade went to Ron Starr. The respective runners up were A, David Sweeney, B, Duncan Hutchinson, C, Terry Varley and, Ray Sweeney.
Congratulations to all the winners in what was a very successful day. There were also many minor prize winners with NTPs and raffles. Well done to you all. Our next big event is the week of golf starting on Sunday the 29th of March, but in the meantime next Tuesday will be a stroke event.
Drake.
