Soccer kicks off for 2026

14th Apr 2026

Senior soccer returned last weekend, with both grades playing in Armidale. A new look 4th grade side took the field on a warm and windy day. They were grateful for those from 3rd grade who filled the bench spots, if anyone is still interested in playing or is new to town and who like to meet some new people, training is on Thursday evenings at the soccer fields.
It was a good match up against Norths who were also finding their feet, Guyra’s Ash Holt narrowly missed the goals with ball hitting the post and bouncing back in. That was the best chance either side had on the day despite a number of breaks from Guyra’s young and enthusiastic forwards, only to be shut down by experienced Norths backs. The game ended in a nil all draw with plenty to build on in the coming weeks.
Third Grade took to the field afterwards also against Norths with a few new faces but a lot of returnees from last season. The game was tight in the early going with both sides feeling each other out. This was broken by Sammy who, with some good lead up, got a ball on the frontline to take it up field and score.
It was 1 to 0 in favour of Guyra at half time and this was as close as it got with one way traffic in the second half. That seen Malachi, Cooper and Tom all scoring goals and a further two from Sammy for a 3 goal game, the score ended up 6 to nil.
This coming weekend sees both grades at home against Glen Innes, with the 4th grade game kicking off and 1pm and the 3rd grade kicking off at 3pm.
The junior season is set to kick off on the 2nd May, with the first training on 29th April. There is still time to get registration and we are seeking players in the older age groups.
