HOCKEY Guyra men return with firepower in dominant win

29th Jul 2025

After a few weeks off, the Guyra Men’s team returned to the turf on July 14th with renewed passion—and made a statement with a commanding 11–1 victory over Ex-Services.
From the first whistle, Guyra looked sharp, hungry, and well-connected across the field. The goals flowed freely, with relentless pressure up front and strong support through the middle.
Special mention to Rob for his rock-solid work in defence—shutting down plays and leading from the back with composure. The team also sends their best wishes to Jake, currently sidelined with COVID. Get well soon, mate!
It was a clinical performance that reminded the competition just how dangerous this team can be when they’re switched on.

Weather disrupts play, but not the spirit
Saturday’s wild weather saw all junior hockey games and the 1:30pm second-grade match cancelled.
As the skies cleared, however, the third-grade ladies weren’t so lucky — and found themselves taking the field at 6pm against Harlies. With some players donning woollen mittens and an assortment of green hoodies, the team braved the chilly conditions.
Matches against Harlies are always enjoyable, with both sides evenly matched. There was great ball movement and the short passing game clicked beautifully. A sneaky goal slipped through the pads to make it a 1–0 result, but the team came away feeling like it was a strong performance with clear improvement by all.
Second grade eventually got their turn on Sunday afternoon in a catch-up game against United. Sarah Cox opened the scoring with a brilliant goal to put Guyra ahead. Maz Sisson kept the umpires on their toes, while Prue Post is still reflecting on her hockey career after receiving yet another green card.
United managed to equalise with a text book goal, that the Guyra ladies spent the 3/4 break discussing how good it really was. With just five minutes remaining, United found the net again to snatch a frustrating 2–1 win.
