Great efforts from the spuds this weekend

15th Jun 2026

The Super Spuds became the walking wounded on Saturday as injuries marred their challenge against Uralla that ended in a 26-10 defeat.
Ock Atkin and Dylan Sutton were both carried off in the first six minutes as Uralla pounced to score an intercept try and open the scoring at 6-nil.
The Tigers had a heap of ball in the first half and Guyra did well to hold them out for the most part, but they eventually went over for a second try and then a third right on halftime to lead 16-nil.
Guyra got on the board after halftime when Riley Campbell chased a Rave Brazier kick and touched down to make it 16-4.
Uralla had all the luck as a clear forward pass was ignored that led to the next try, which also saw Guyra’s Seb Pianko sin binned after an altercation.
The Tigers took advantage and scored again to lead 26-4 and settle the result.
Pianko came back on and crashed over for a Guyra consolation try and Ben Vidler converted for the 26-10 final score.
Three further injuries for the Spuds made for a rough day, but Pianko was rewarded for his efforts with the players’ player award and Jackson Coote (3), Angus Brazier (2) and Samuel Briggs (1) earned club points.
Reserve grade performed strongly to post a good 34-18 win earlier in the day with centres Jayden Field and Mitch Wratten both scoring doubles.
Brock Laybutt, Luke Allsopp and Brad Waters also posted four-pointers as the Spuds turned a 20-6 halftime lead into a comfortable win.
Waters was voted players’ player while Anthony Dittman (3), Brett Beard (2) and Waters (1) scored the club points.
The Spudettes put up a good effort in the league tag but went down 42-8.
Ella Clews provided the highlight for Guyra with a long-range try in the first half after Uralla had scored twice to lead 12-nil.
Guyra’s other try came in the second half when skipper Rachel Coles went through after a break by Kayla White.
Clews was players’ player and scored three clubs points, with the other points going to Coles (2) and Taylor Waters (1).
This Sunday Guyra welcomes the Moree Boomerangs to the New Red Hill for league tag and A grade fixtures while the reserves get another week off.
