A celebration of a successful year was held at the Guyra Anglers Club AGM and Presentation Day on Sunday, March 15, at the Guyra Bowling Club, recognising the achievements of members across all categories.
With all committee positions declared open, a mix of returning and new members stepped into roles for the year ahead. Grant Roberts returned as President, alongside Josh Britten (Vice President), Tyler Britten (Junior Vice President), Amanda Jackson (Treasurer), Tamora Jones (Secretary), and Jason Jackson (Competitions). They were joined by Laurie Britten (Junior Vice President) and Andrew Bullard as Joint NETAS representative. Norm Williams was also thanked for once again serving as returning officer.
Awards were presented across a range of fishing categories. Biggest fish winners included Graham Hutton (Redfin), Mick Purvis (Yellowbelly), Luke Burton (Bass), Travis Murdock (Trout and winner of the Mayled Shield), and for Cod winners were Ashton Hutton, Lillian Murdock, Christopher Rushton, Amanda Jackson, and Ben Jones (winner of the Dale Drabsch Memorial Trophy).
Major award winners were also recognised. In the sub-junior (under 12) division, Jessica Rushton and Dusty Britten were honoured, while Lillian Murdock and Tyler Britten took out the junior (12–18) titles. Senior (18+) winners were Michelle McDaniel and Luke Burton.
In a closely contested race, Luke Burton was crowned Angler of the Year, earning a place on the new Bad Breed Lures Angler of the Year trophy. Thanks were extended to Jamie Flett from Bad Breed Lures for the handcrafted trophy, with all category winners also receiving a handmade wooden lure and a $25 BCF gift voucher.
The day also featured a highly successful raffle, with record ticket sales and more than $3,000 worth of prizes awarded to delighted winners.
The club expressed its gratitude to sponsors, members, the public, and the committee for their contributions to a memorable event. Special thanks were given to local supporters including Khammo, Deano’s Smoked Trout, Fourways Service Centre, Sisson Family Meats, Bishop’s Home and Hardware, Bad Breed Lures, and the Guyra Bowling Club.
Anyone interested in joining the club is encouraged to attend the next meeting on Saturday, April 11 at 6pm at the Bowlo.
