Vets week of golf a great success

28th Oct 2025

Our week of golf is done and dusted and what a huge success. Averaging just under 50 players each day, our numbers were a little down on what was expected but most visitors complimented us on our friendly club and picturesque course - thank you green keepers.
There are so many people to thank, I don’t think there were too many vets, either men or ladies that didn’t help in some way.
Our lady vets, Wow, you girls are amazing. And what about the 100 years’ memorabilia display from Jenny and her troops - brilliant. Thanks to all vets and others that made our week so good.
Then we have our sponsors. The Guyra Bowling Club - you guys offer us so much support financially as well as personally. David was there every morning doing his bit and Betty and her staff couldn’t have been more cooperative. Add into that the meals served to us by Sammy’s Bistro, beautiful. Thank you.
Costa tomatoes again supported us as they always do with lovely fresh tomatoes. Sole Taxation were also on board and what an asset to our town they are. Advantage Pharmacy - how lucky are we to have Vu and his crew on board. The personal service in this chemist is second to none.Wendy loved the flowers.
Our coffee man, Bean Travelling also supported us. Deano’s Trout farm also gave us so much support. The smoked trout was yummy and then the BBQ after the Wednesday tour was great. Thanks Deano.
The NSW Vets Golf Association represented by Peter Taylor also gave us tremendous support. We also had a couple of golfing pro’s with a display of merchandise that many people utilised. Thank you Kieren. Thank you all and if I have missed someone I will catch up next week.
The first day, Monday was a 4BBB and some great scores recorded. Col Walls and Phil Devlin had a very impressive 49 points to come in winners to Wal Chapman and Jon Cumming also impressive with 47. For the ladies and mixed John and Allyson Weaver were winners with 46 points on a count back to Wendy George and Jenny Rogers. Impressive scores all round.
Tuesday and Thursday there were around 44 prizes handed out. I will try and condense that by naming just the winners. Stableford winner in ladies was Leonie Taylor and scratch Sue Gilchrist. Men’s Div 1 winner was Wayne Brennan to scratch Robert Moore. Div 2 winner was Graham Ball with scratch Danny Wolfe.
Wednesday was rest day and thanks to organisation from Lyn and Wal Chapman a tour was organised for our visitors. They visited potato and sheep farms, tomato and trout farms and finished with a luncheon at Deano’s. Brilliant.
Thursday winner for the ladies was Jenny Rogers and scratch was Diane Wolfe. Men div 1 winner was Peter Taylor and scratch was Mick Jackson. Div 2 winner was Michael Miller and scratch winner Brian Stringer.
The main event was Tuesday and Thursday combined for a 36 hole event. Ian Taylor and Col Walls were locked together with a countback giving Ian the win. Congratulations to you both. For the ladies congratulations to Wendy George getting the win and also to runner up Pip White.
Friday was a social day with a 2 person Ambrose. Mick Jackson and Scott Mendes won the men’s division with Donna White and Tina Skipper wining the ladies and the mixed went to Graham Ball and Sue Gilchrist.
The week was topped off with Ian Taylor achieving every golfers dream with a hole in one. Great stuff Ian. There were also two eagles recorded so all in all, with all the recent negativity in the world, this is a good news story. Next year will be even bigger and better.
