Shamrocks wrap up season 2022

27th Sep 2022

Guyra Shamrock Hockey Club would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all the committee members for a wonderful 2022 winter competition. Guyra continues to maintain a strong membership managing to field an U8’s, U11’s, 2nd Grade Women’s, 3rd Grade Women’s, A grade Men’s & 2 B Grade Men’s teams. It was extremely exciting to welcome so many new members to the game of hockey across all fields. Our Junior teams showed huge improvement throughout the season with the U8’s being dominant each Saturday and even stepping up to help the U11 when needed. Our U11’s showed that playing as a team & practicing our passing created wonderful outcomes. The play of the season came when the ball was passed beautifully the length of the field to maintain possession and Henry Evans (usually our goalie) positioned himself to score. Special mention also goes to the following Junior members Jimmie Neal, Millie Neal, Jaydea Cox, Elsie Post, Rose Gordon, Callie Cameron, Poppy Post, Brianna Marshall & Tyler Cameron, all these members competed in their first hockey carnival in Tamworth during the season, stepping up to play full field and even some indoor games. It has been a pleasure to watch everyone develop and enjoy hockey.
Senior Women’s had a great season even if at times there was hockey played by some members back to back, we all know who they were….. Occasionally we felt we played our best with no subs or only fielding 9-10 players which helped to confuse our opponents!! But when we did all come together we were a force to be reckoned with and the diversity in skill was impressive to watch. This was especially evident with the 2nd Grade team narrowly missing out on finals and coming 5th. Well done to the ladies who played hockey for the first time ever this year and those ladies who even went on to play Master’s, amazing effort. It was wonderful to see so many new members of Guyra Shamrock Hockey Club and we look forward to playing together again in 2023.
Guyra Shamrocks Mens fielded three full teams this year, two teams in B grade and one team in A Grade. This made Guyra Hockey Club one of the largest contributors to the Hockey New England Men’s Competition. It was great to see new faces, many playing for the first time and able to be competitive. One of the B Grade made the semi-finals but was unfortunately knocked in the first round. A Grade made it to the grand final and narrowly missed out going down 2-1.
Guyra Shamrocks also would like to recognise our team members who have and are participating in representative hockey beyond the local competition.
The comradery and sportsmanship of all teams have created a great environment with the club looking forward to seeing new players for next year.
A huge thank you to all our sponsors whose contribution to Guyra Shamrock Hockey Club has allowed for much-needed equipment, playing shirts, and a reduction in membership fees over the past few years. We look forward to working with you in 2023.
Thank you to our sponsors Costa, Brown & Krippner, Sportspower, Glenavon Angus, Highland Pet Food, Brisk Trading, Lenehan Contract Services, Dennis Behrend Asbestos Removal, Jackson Pastoral Co, and the Royal Hotel.
