The Super Spuds maintained their unbeaten home record and set up a huge showdown with Inverell this Sunday by running in eight tries against Uralla last Saturday.
A great start saw Guyra run in three early tries to lead 16-nil and that margin foreshadowed the final score of 46-30.
Blake Phillips latched onto an Ock Atkin pass to score first.
Tahmani Landsborough touched down in the opposite corner soon after and the third Guyra try was a long-range effort started by Sione Tanginoa Moa’s offload to Robert Sisson, followed by Atkin going through from the next play to score.
Uralla finally had a chance and made the most of it to make it 16-6, but Guyra struck straight back via Cormack Hume and it was 22-6.
Uralla was reduced to twelve men for the last 10 minutes of the half and the Spuds used the space to run it on the last with Corey Torrens putting Atkin over for his second.
The 28-6 halftime score looked even better when Archie Dowden barged over soon after the break to make it 34-6.
The Tigers had the better of the next phase of the game with two tries of their own.
At 34-18 it was not over, but two tries on the back of spilled kicks to Ben Stevens and another to Dowden pushed Guyra’s lead to 46-18 and the win was in the bag.
Uralla scored twice late to cut the margin, but Guyra was a deserved winner.
Torrens was players’ player and scored one club point.
The others went to Atkin (3) and Dowden (2), but there were a host of strong performers across the park for the Spuds.
Earlier the Spudettes ran riot in the leaguetag game.
Taneika Dailey ran in four tries and Kiarna Landsborough three in a 60-nil rout.
The other try-scorers for Guyra were Lorissa Wilson, Sophie Mitchell, Katie Ahoy, Danielle Sutton and Jasmine Howarth as the Spudettes turned a 40-nil halftime lead into an early-mark win under the mercy rule.
Dailey was players’ player, while the club points went to Landsborough (3), Wilson (2) and Howarth (1).
Sunday’s clash with Inverell at the Guyra Sporting Complex will be a serious test for the Spuds.
Inverell is leading the competition after seven rounds and a big home crowd would be a helping hand for Guyra.
