Bowls Club Championship games
Sunday July 18th saw a number of Club Championships played. In the Final of the Club Pairs Evan Sole and Roger Cox played Boyd Stanley and Scott Campbell, this was a typical final with neither team willing to give an inch and by end 11 there was only one shot separating the two teams. Scott and Boyd managed to open a slender lead only to see it disappear and again by end 19 the gap between the two teams was only 2 shots. End 20 saw Scott and Boyd get one shot opening the gap to 3 shots and with only one end left to play Evan and Roger gave their opposition the scare of their lives but only able to score 2 shots. Scott and Boyd staggered over the line 18 shots to 17 shots over 21 ends.
In the Final of the Minor Singles Barry Campbell played Barry Walls, in this game they traded the lead on several occasions and the game was in doubt right up to the last bowl. On end 33 Barry Campbell had a chance to clinch the game but Barry Walls had other ideas and won the 34th end, Barry Campbell won the next end and only wanting 1 shot to take victory, but as all bowlers getting that 1 shot is the hardest endeavour of all. Barry Walls was able to win the next 2 ends and draw even at 30 shots all despite Barry Campbell drawing on all his experience saw the game slip away. Barry Walls was able to win the game 31 shots to 30 shots over 38 ends of hard bowls.
The Semi Final of the Major Singles saw Dan Kennedy play John McIlwain. In this game the lead changed a number of times before Dan settled and slowly forged ahead and was never headed after end 14. Dan managed to keep John on 13 shots for 4 ends, 14 shots for 3 ends and 16 shots for 6 ends and as a result he surged ahead and took the victory 31 shots to 16 shots over 25 ends.
A game of Major/Minor Pairs was also played between the teams of Logan Beechey and Mallie Walls and the team of Greg Mitchell and Col Stanley.
Mallie and Logan galloped out of the blocks early and managed to open an unassailable lead. Col and Greg managed a slight comeback but the hoarse had bolted and Mallie and Logan went on to take the win 31 shots to 22 shots over 25 ends.
