Guyra’s sporting community was honoured at the 2025 Australia Dinner with a number of awards handed out.
Guyra Sports Team of the Year Guyra Lady Golfers. In 2025 the Guyra Lady Golfers won the New England District Golf Association Pennant – last time that was achieved was in 1993.They secure their place in the final of the Southern Division of NEDGA, and in the final they played Tenterfield and won 5-0. The Guyra Lady Golfers played in golf competitions far and wide in 2025; Gunnedah to Grafton, Tenterfield to Tamworth and many places in between.
Also nominated were the Guyra Junior Rugby League Senior League Tag Team and Immediate League Tag Team who both had successful seasons and the Guyra Cricket Association side who won the T20 competition in 2025.
Gina Lockyer was recognised with the Contribution to Sport and Recreation award.
Gina has been the President of Guyra Junior rugby League for 12 years. In this time Gina has provided the Guyra Community a new under cover concrete grandstand at the Guyra Sporting Complex and upgraded the kitchen/canteen area. Gina is selfless with her time for others and the club, giving everyone in our club support when needed.
Gina is always on the sideline supporting all Guyra Junior League players, coaches, first aid officers and water runners.
Also nominated was Ashley Holt for many years of service to Guyra Soccer as a coach, committee member and for his voluntary contribution.
Guyra Sportsperson of the year was Ashleigh Richardson
Ashleigh has had a very successful year with Women’s rugby. Selected in the Northern Rugby representative team Northern Lions for the Country Champion as Captain. From this Ashleigh was selected as a part of the training squad for Country Corellas and was selected to go to Alaska as part of the Pacific Nomads Rugby team to play which went through undefeated to take out the tournament. Also nominated was Fletcher Richardson for his shooting exploits.
